Isle of Wight

The island has a rich history, Queen Victoria built her summer residence, Osborne House at East Cowes. The world’s first hovercraft was built here and the testing and development of Britain’s space rockets took place at The Needles. It is home to the Isle of Wight International Jazz Festival, Bestival and the Isle of Wight Festival.

There is so much to see and do...

Some of the Isle of Wight Events...

The Isle of Wight is only 23 miles by 13 miles in size, but don't let that fool you into thinking there isn't much to do!

The island has exceptional wildlife, a big cat sanctuary and is also one of the richest fossil locations for dinosaurs in Europe. There is an unbelievable array of activities from Angling to Zoos!

What did the Romans do for us?

The Romans inhabited the Island which is why it has one of the oldest vineyards in the UK. They called the Island, Vectis; that's why the bus company on the Isle of Wight is called 'Southern Vectis' and you can see some of their buses in the Bus Museum which can be found in the Museum section. There are also numerous Roman ruins across the Island and you can find out more about them in the Historic Buildings section.

Jurassic Island

Somewhat earlier, dinosaurs inhabited the Island too, which is why you can often find fossils on the beach and is also why the island is known as the dinosaur Isle! Why not visit some of the dinosaur attractions such as the Dinosaur Isle in Sandown? Find out more in the Museum section.

Things are happening all the time!

The Island is an incredibly vibrant and exciting place where you will find an amazing array of things to do. There is nearly always something going on, from massive music festivals where the likes of The Police, The Rolling Stones, Stereophonics, Amy Winehouse and many more play, to the Cowes Week Sailing Regatta, the largest such regatta anywhere in the world. You won't be disappointed.
